The XBB OBD Dongle & PowerUnit is a smart combination where a wireless relay and CAN bus control enable the installation of additional lights even in cars where the signal must be taken from the CAN bus. This Dongle makes installation easy, and there is no need to make direct connections to the CAN bus cables – the excitation can be picked up directly from the car's OBD port. However, the power supplied directly by the XBB Dongle is limited to 180W (15A @12V). This is not a problem, as with a simple additional connection, the Dongle, or "Smart Relay," can control a traditional relay, removing the power limitation.
How it works
In practice, the smart relay generates a signal and uses it to control the excitation current of a traditional relay, i.e., the normal relay in the auxiliary light relay wiring harness. This relay base is used to connect to the XBB power unit, which provides the signal to the auxiliary light wiring harness. Connection instructions are included for easy installation.
